About
Centre for Promoting the Rights of African Women, Youth and Children
C-RAWYC is a registered non-governmental organisation based in Abuja, Nigeria. We promote the rights and safety of women, young people and children — with particular attention to the behaviour that comes before serious harm, and to why so much of it goes unnamed.
Our vision
An Africa where women, youth and children are informed, empowered and protected from preventable harm.
Our mission
To use evidence-based communication, education, community engagement and innovative tools to challenge harmful beliefs, influence positive behaviour and promote practices that protect the rights, health, safety and wellbeing of women, youth and children.
Why this focus
Almost everyone can identify abuse once it is undeniable. The difficulty is earlier. A supervisor attaching a condition to a promotion. An adult asking a child to keep a secret. A partner who checks a phone every night. These are the moments when harm is still preventable, and they are exactly the moments people are least sure how to name.
That uncertainty is not stupidity. It is the absence of a clear line — and lines can be taught.
What we hold to
- Responsibility belongs to the person who causes harm. Never to clothing, to behaviour, to body shape, or to the fact that someone did not report immediately.
- Plain language. If a person needs a lawyer to understand an explanation, the explanation has failed.
- Numbers with their limits attached. We say how many people a finding came from, and who they were.
- Education is not a substitute for help. Everything we make points towards people who can act.
Independence
C-RAWYC is an independent non-governmental organisation. It is not a commercial venture and it does not trade on the work of any affiliated company.
